Laser processing is the most commonly used application of laser systems. According to the interaction mechanism of laser beam and materials, it can be generally divided into laser thermal processing and photochemical reaction processing.
 
As far as the current technology is concerned, the main features of laser processing technology are as follows:
1. Good focusing performance, concentrated energy, small heat affected area and high machining accuracy.

 

2. Non-contact processing, no pollution to the workpiece, no mechanical extrusion or mechanical stress to the processing materials;

 

3. High degree of automation, saving labor costs;

 

4. No need for mold, suitable for large workpiece processing;

 

5. It is not limited by processing quantity and can be put into mass processing and production;

 

6. With computer programming, the processing is accurate, the material utilization rate is high, and the production cost is reduced;

 

7. Good adaptability, it can work in the atmosphere and also operate in the vacuum environment;

 

8. No inertia in processing, fast processing speed;

 

9. Wide processing range, high power density, can process almost any material.

 

 
There are four main types of factors affecting laser processing performance:

1. Laser features. Continuous output mode/pulse mode, wavelength, power, pulse frequency and duty cycle;
2. Lens parameters. The lens shape affects the focal distance, and then affects the size and depth of the laser processing area;
3. Processing material's own features, mainly including material oxidation features, melting point, specific heat capacity, etc;
4. Other factors. Such as oxygen supply rate, air flow pressure, etc.
